Effects of Cadmium and Salinity on Growth and Photosynthesis Parameters of Brassica Species

چکیده
Hydroponic experiment was conducted to investigate the sole and combined effects of cadmium and salinity on growth and photosynthesis of Brassica napus (cultivar Abasin) and Brassica juncea (cultivar NIFA-Raya). Cadmium (as CdCl2; 3 and 6 μmol L) and NaCl (100 and 200 mM) were added either alone or in combination in Hoagland solution along with non-treated controls. Cd and NaCl treatments imposed significant negative effects (p≤0.05) on shoot and root length, shoot and root fresh and dry weights, shoot and root water content, number of leaves plant, chlorophyll content (SPAD value), photosynthesis and stomatal conductance compared to control. The lone application of either Cd or NaCl on these parameters had comparatively less drastic effects than the combined application of both. Of the two species tested, B. juncea was found comparatively less influenced by Cd and NaCl.

Salinity and water stress reduces the ability of plant to take up water and decrease growth rate, photosynthesis rate (An) and stomatal conductance (gs) of plants. In this study, effects of deficit irrigation with different salinity levels and planting method (in-furrow and on-ridge) as strategies for coping with water and salinity stress on physiologic properties of rapeseed was investigat...

In order to study the effects of different salinity levels on turnip (Brassica rapa L.), an investigation was conducted at Yasouj University, Iran, in 2010. The effects of four salinity levels including 1.92, 9.87, 19.6 and 21.94 ds m-1 (20:1 ratio of NaCl: CaCl2 in Hoagland solution) on germination, vegetative and maturity stages of turnip (Baherghan landrace) were investigated. The results re...

In many forage plants, germination and early seedling growth are the most sensitive stages of their growth in the face of environmental stresses. Current r...
